I have a vegetable garden in my back yard, where we keep our dogs. We have learned that there's no possible way to keep them on one side of the yard - we've tried. But one of the dogs keeps eating all of our vegetables off the plant before we can pick them!! What can we do about this?
Also, right now we grow tomatoes, peppers, and chives. Any good ideas for other things to grow? We haven't been successful with sweet peas - the rabbits love them. We also tried corn for a while - wouldn't mind trying it again!
Puppy is "picking vegetables?"?
Aw... now if only our kids would eat their veggies with such gusto! There are a few ways to stop them 1. surround it with a fence 2. set up a traps so that one of the veggies is covered with a bitter substance (such as Cinnamon, lemon, or other spices that dogs hate). This way the dog won't just not eat when you're around, they will be disgusted by the food, and won't try many times more. 3. put wire mesh over it 4. a dog shock/high pitch sound collar with a remote (expensive but highly effective).
Reply:Put you one of those electric wire fence around the garden.
It'll stop all them critters from a gettin your garden.
I had one that I put around my little vegatable patch and it did good as far as a keepin um out......but one day I was a out there a hoe-n and I got the "urge" and I whipped it out and commenced to pee, and it sent a jolt through me....not only did I pee I shatted in my drawers too!
don't forget to turn that electricity off when you go to pick the veggies!
Reply:I agree with the idea of a physical barrier. There is inexpensive, temporary fencing available. Some is made of plastic that would be easy to set up. Then there's hardware cloth, which is a metal screen (extra large holes) or type of net. The name is very deceiving, but it's cheap %26amp; sturdier than plastic, %26amp; comes in different sizes.
If you've had trouble with diggers, bury about 6-8 inches %26amp; it's best to angle it out toward the side they would try to dig.
Good Luck ~ it's no fun seeing all the fruits of your labor going to the dogs
