If you like broccoli...?

I'm trying to expand my vegetable repertoire, but I'm a little picky. I love broccoli, but not cauliflower. I love asparagus, but only crisp steamed, I loathe it canned. I don't care for most canned veggies except peas. I love fresh spinach and romaine, but not iceberg lettuce. I love white corn, sweet peas, sugar snap peas in pods when their steamed, and french cut green beans. I love artichoke, but hate marinated artichoke hearts. I only like peppers in very specific ways. I also eat tons of avocados (I know they're a fruit, but the taste applies). Looking at my tastes, what else should I be trying?
If you like broccoli...?
Try arugula, cabbage, and sweet snap peas.
Reply:onion soup
Reply:did you ever try Romanesco? it is a broccoli/cauliflower hybrid
Reply:There is a whole world of veggies that you are denying yourself of! How about Mushrooms?? I simply adore grilled Portabella mushrooms! What about zucchini and squash? Potatoes are another that are so versatile and they don't have to be fried to be divine!! I recently tried eggplant, and it is very good. Spinach and broccoli are my faves as well, so I assume at least some of these will appeal! I have tons of great recipe ideas if you would like them!!
Reply:Carrots. Definitely carrots. Peas, white corn and haricots (french green beans) are slightly sweet, similar to carrots. Baby carrots are best. I use a frozen mix of peas and baby carrots, all I need to do is to is to cook it for a minute in bit of hot water.

You also seem to have a pattern of liking only veggies with very little flavour (or that are bitter or sweet). In this case try to befriend zucchini (courgettes). I cut them up and steam-fry them in a pan with a bit of oil, then smother them in a cheese sauce or use this recipe:

1-4 salmon steaks (or fillets without skin - fillets are better)

1-3 green zucchini/courgettes

1-4 carrots (normal, not baby)

tomato paste (1-2 teaspoons)

Peal the carrots and chop the veggies into slices. The slices for the carrots should be thin and only half as thick as the slices for the courgettes. Heat a large pan, coat with a tablespoon of oil, fry the salmon in it until the outside has changed colour. Take the salmon out, put the veggies in, stir-fry for a few minutes. Then pour in some water, add tomato paste and the salmon and cook everything until it is done.
Reply:What about Grean Beans and Squash???
Reply:You have named no root crops like carrots, radishes, potatoes, turnips, parsnips and so forth. You are definitely missing yellow veggies such as squash which is high in vitamin A. The best thing is try a spoonful and maybe you will like it. If not hold off for awhile and then try it again. Prepare them in different ways.

For Thanksgiving Dinner.....?

Turkey %26amp; Dressing, mashed potatoes %26amp; giblet gravy, cranberry sauce, sweet peas, creamed corn cassarole, glazed carrots, dinner rolls, tea and pecan pie.

or

Ham, potatoe salad, sweet potatoes with marshmellows, stuffed acorn squash, fruit salad, deviled eggs, french bread, tea and German Chocolate cake.
For Thanksgiving Dinner.....?
The initial selection, please. Mmmmmmmmmmm.......
Reply:i like the old tradition, so i'm going to have to vote for the first fine selection.
Reply:I like turkey Chicken and veggies.
Reply:The first menu sounds similar to what we usually have, but the second sounds good..I want to take a little from both! lol

YUCKY green beans!!?

I just started my son on veggies. He does not seem to like green beans and sweet peas. He seems to prefer sweet potatoes and squash.

Is it ok to eliminate the green veggies from his diet?? OR should I continue to feed it to him even though he makes funny faces and does not open his mouth eagerly?
YUCKY green beans!!?
I would continue to give him the "yucky" green beans and sweet peas. He will need to have this in his diet and will eventually get used to them.
Reply:I usually wait a couple of weeks and then I introduce it again. If still no go, I do the same thing again. Later- I mix those veggies in with other foods so she will still get them.
Reply:I would continue to offer the green vegetables, but you may have to make them more appealing. Put a small amount of green beans in with his apple sauce, or in a preferred vegetable. When he is older mix them with his meats. Often babies read our facial cues to determine how they feel about people, places and yes foods. When presenting foods, make sure you do not show a dislike for the food. My children all loved squash as babies, and now love squash and zucchini, I can not stand either. I have cooked them for them always, but I have never eaten a bite. They also love chocolate another item I detest.
Reply:keep tryin
Reply:Try mixing it with a veggie he enjoys. Or, mix it with a meat
Reply:The funny face he makes is a natural reaction. He's trying to get used to the taste. It may take him 5 to 10 times of eating a certain food to get used to it and to eat it. But, don't lose heart. Eventually he'll like them.
Reply:Try 5 times consecutively, no he wont starve. If he is still wiping it on mommy try to mix it with something, even if you think sweet peas and squash is revolting it should be given a shot. Consecutively is the key, though. And if he still truns up his nose respect his preference, try at a later time. Whole peas are definitly more appealing.
Reply:I would keep trying periodically, but don't push it too much.

My daughter had a few things she didnt' like when we were starting solids. Some things, like peas, she has grown to like and even asks for them now. But she has never liked green beans... she's 4 now and still can't stand them. Even when I try to hide them in something, she can still taste "something yucky in there!"

Babies need lots of time to experiment with food, that's why we start solids around 6 months so they have a taste for all the flavors when they need to have real food as their main source of nutrition after their first birthday. So keep trying, but remember that we all have different tastes and preferances for food.

Baby's eating preferences...?

Is it normal for an 8 month old to like every baby food you give him?!?!?! He has his favorites like broccoli and chicken, sweet peas or spinach, he will gobble down faster but he will eat anything. When he first started eating baby food he didn't care for fruit too much, then when he started dinners around 6- 6 1/2 months he didn't really like any dinners that weren't just a meat and a veggie (like beef dumpling dinner for example) but he got over it fast. I am thinking its a good thing, he doesn't over eat. I just wondered because I see people asking questions saying their baby won't eat this or that. He is my first so I was just curious and wondering if I just lucked out.
Baby's eating preferences...?
Yes, it's normal, but you are still very lucky to have such a great eater! I have one also and everywhere I go, people marvel at the things he will eat. However, now at 13 months, I'm noticing that is changing....he does not like meats and has more of a preference for fruits over veggies. BUT, he is still a very healthy eater %26amp; will try anything once. The key also is to offer a variety of healthy foods and don't give up when your baby decides that they don't like something one day...the next day, they might like it. Best wishes!
Reply:My son is the same way. I have yet to find anything he doesn't like. I consider myself blessed!
Reply:you definetly lucked out!! if your child will eat some of those nasty tasting baby foods :) lol then you shouldnt have any problem getting him to eat his vegetables when he gets older! enjoy the fact that you dont have to say the " he wont eat this and this and this and this and only this if it has this and this to go along with it" congrats on such a good eater and good luck :)
Reply:They say that a child isn't born with preferences but learns them by watching others. Encourage a healthy, well rounded diet and don't let your kid see you turn up your nose at a food- especially a healthy one- and you're baby will thank you for life.
Reply:My 1st and 2nd kids were very fussy.....my daughter would only eat puddings from 4-6months!

My last baby though, is 8months old and he will eat anything......he doesn't even eat mashed stuff now he's moved straight to finger food. Luckily he has 6 teeth lol!

I reckon it's just luck ;o) Good eaters are fab!
Reply:Your baby is opposite mine. My 8 month old was crazy about the fruit baby food and nothing else. Then recently, about a month ago he got hooked on vegetables. Everything I give him, he eats. You just lucked out. I'm glad you don't have such a picky but voracious eater. Keep up the good work!

    For the South Beach dieters!!!?

am i allowed to have sweet peas?
    For the South Beach dieters!!!?
Yes, you are allowed to have sweet peas. From http://www.bestsouthbeachdiet.info/

Now what? I planted in my carefully prepared soil outside my kitchen window?

with a wigwam made out of hazel with what I though were sweet peas bought from my local garden centre (sold as seet peas). I was looking at them today and I realised they are not sweet peas but garden peas. Though I love garden peas I had expected a wonderfull display of sweet peas to look at out of kitchen window.

What can grown once the peas have been and gone or should I cut my losses and look for a climber for my trellis...please though no more clematis.
Now what? I planted in my carefully prepared soil outside my kitchen window?
You can still plant your sweet peas or anything else for that matter. The garden peas are fast growers and are "done" by the time the weather heats up. Because they are legumes, they also add nitrogen to the soil which benefits anything else grown there.
Reply:First eat and enjoy the peas. They will get nice flowers, too!!

Then try a Caroline Jasmine (Gelsemium Sempervirens) which comes in 8in pots from nurseries up to about the end of August. They are supposed to be spring flowering but will probably in flower when you buy it.

Grows to about 8 feet, small glossy leaves and one-inch open yellow flowers, BEAUTIFUL perfume. I have mine going crazy up a bamboo wigwam, from a shrub pot on the terrace. Didn't get attacked by any of the bugs that destroyed everything else last year, either, so it's low maintenance.
Reply:Try cherry tomatoes, the vining varieties, the peas roots fix nitrogen in the soil and if you till the tops in after their done your tomatoes will love you.. the vine tomatoes get very dramatic cherry clusters like grapes and you can train them to a trellis I have had plants up to 15 to 20 feet long and had more tomatoes then i could use and that made my neighbors happy

    Probability?

According to genetic theory, the blossom color in the second generationof a certain cross of sweet peas should be red or white in 3:1 ratio. That is, each plant has probability 3/4 of having redblossoms, and the blossomcolor of separate plants are independent.

    (a) What is the probability that exactly 6 out of 8 of these plants have red blossoms?

    (b) What is the mean number of red-blossomed plants when 80 plants of this type are grown from seeds?

    (c) What is the probability of obtaining at least 50 red-blossomed plants whe 80 plants are grown frm seeds?
    Probability?
Let X be the number of plants with red blossoms. X has the binomial distribution with n = 8 trials and success probability p = 0.75

In general, if X has the binomial distribution with n trials and a success probability of p then

    P[X = x] = n!/(x!(n-x)!) * p^x * (1-p)^(n-x)

    for values of x = 0, 1, 2, ..., n

    P[X = x] = 0 for any other value of x.

The probability mass function is derived by looking at the number of combination of x objects chosen from n objects and then a total of x success and n - x failures.

Or, in other words, the binomial is the sum of n independent and identically distributed Bernoulli trials.

    X ~ Binomial( n , p )

    the mean of the binomial distribution is n * p = 6

    the variance of the binomial distribution is n * p * (1 - p) = 1.5

    the standard deviation is the square root of the variance = √ ( n * p * (1 - p)) = 1.224745

    The Probability Mass Function, PMF,

    f(X) = P(X = x) is:

    P( X = 0 ) = 1.525879e-05

    P( X = 1 ) = 0.0003662109

    P( X = 2 ) = 0.003845215

    P( X = 3 ) = 0.02307129

    P( X = 4 ) = 0.08651733

    P( X = 5 ) = 0.2076416

    P( X = 6 ) = 0.3114624 ← answer

    P( X = 7 ) = 0.2669678

    P( X = 8 ) = 0.1001129

    == -- == -- == -- == -- ==

    b)

    80 * 0.75 = 60

    == -- == -- == -- == -- ==

    c)

To use the normal approximation to the binomial you must first validate that you have more than 10 expected successes and 10 expected failures. In other words, you need to have n * p %26gt; 10 and n * (1-p) %26gt; 10.

Some authors will say you only need 5 expected successes and 5 expected failures to use this approximation. If you are working towards the center of the distribution then this condition should be sufficient. However, the approximations in the tails of the distribution will be weaker especially if the success probability is low or high. Using 10 expected successes and 10 expected failures is a more conservative approach but will allow for better approximations especially when p is small or p is large.

    In this case you have:

    n * p = 80 * 0.75 = 60 expected success

    n * (1 - p) = 80 * 0.25 = 20 expected failures

We have checked and confirmed that there are enough expected successes and expected failures. Now we can move on to the rest of the work.

    If Xb ~ Binomial(n, p) then we can approximate probabilities using the normal distribution where Xn is normal with mean μ = n * p, variance σ2 = n * p * (1-p), and standard deviation σ

    Xb ~ Binomial(n = 80 , p = 0.75 )

    Xn ~ Normal( μ = 60 , σ2 = 15 )

    Xn ~ Normal( μ = 60 , σ = 3.872983 )

I have noted two different notations for the Normal distribution, one using the variance and one using the standard deviation. In most textbooks and in most of the literature, the parameters used to denote the Normal distribution are the mean and the variance. In most software programs, the standard notation is to use the mean and the standard deviation.

The probabilities are approximated using a continuity correction. We need to use a continuity correction because we are estimating discrete probabilities with a continuous distribution. The best way to make sure you use the correct continuity correction is to draw out a small histogram of the binomial distribution and shade in the values you need. The continuity correction accounts for the area of the boxes that would be missing or would be extra under the normal curve.

    P( Xb %26lt; x) ≈ P( Xn %26lt; (x - 0.5) )

    P( Xb %26gt; x) ≈ P( Xn %26gt; (x + 0.5) )

    P( Xb ≤ x) ≈ P( Xn ≤ (x + 0.5) )

    P( Xb ≥ x) ≈ P( Xn ≥ (x - 0.5) )

    P( Xb = x) ≈ P( (x - 0.5) %26lt; Xn %26lt; (x + 0.5) )

    P( a ≤ Xb ≤ b ) ≈ P( (a - 0.5) %26lt; Xn %26lt; (b + 0.5) )

    P( a ≤ Xb %26lt; b ) ≈ P( (a - 0.5) %26lt; Xn %26lt; (b - 0.5) )

    P( a %26lt; Xb ≤ b ) ≈ P( (a + 0.5) %26lt; Xn %26lt; (b + 0.5) )

    P( a %26lt; Xb %26lt; b ) ≈ P( (a + 0.5) %26lt; Xn %26lt; (b - 0.5) )

In the work that follows Xb has the binomial distribution, Xn has the normal distribution and Z has the standard normal distribution.

Remember that for any normal random variable Xn, you can transform it into standard units via: Z = (Xn - μ ) / σ

    P( Xb ≥ 50 ) =

    80

    ∑ P(Xb = x) = 0.995418

    x = 50

    ≈ P( Xn ≥ 49.5 )

    = P( Z ≥ ( 49.5 - 60 ) / 3.872983 )

    = P( Z ≥ -2.711088 )

    = 0.9966469
Reply:The Binomial distribution has the probability

    function P(x=k)= nCr p^r (1-p)^(n-r)

    k=0,1,2,.....,n

    where nCr = n! / r! (n-r)!

    a) n=8, x=6, p=3/4 or 0.75

    0.3115

b)mean of the Binomial distribution is np = 80(3/4) =60

    c)n=80, x=50 through 80, p=3/4 or 0.75

You may use Normal approximation, but let us directly evaluate it.

    P(x %26gt;=50) =0.9954

I have included a source that would help you compute these probabilities. If you have access to a Binomial table, you may use it.

    Kix for 8m babies?

so my baby refuses baby jar foods, she wants to feed herself. She lives on Cheerios, little pieces of fruits, carrots, sweet peas, corns, etc. Is it safe and good idea to give her Kix? Does that dissolve fast enough? She has 6 teeth.
    Kix for 8m babies?
Most small cereals should be fine if she can handle cheerios. I would personally avoid any cereals that have any allergens listed on the ingredient label though - especially peanuts.

Here are some good sites that list foods and ages - it is simply a guideline:

    http://www.babysake.com/babyfoodchart.ht...

    http://www.babycenter.com/0_baby-food-ba...

    http://www.wholesomebabyfood.com/solids....
Reply:If you give her Cheerios, she should be okay w/ Kix. The dissolve much faster.
Reply:They turn to much quicker than cheerios.
Reply:i gave my son little cereals at this time, he ate it good, but there are little puffs they sell for babies that dissolve fast in their mouth.
Reply:Kix does disolve but the shape of them is scary. I would stick with the cheerios. She seems to be fine with what you are giving her, I do not think she is missing anything if you hold off on giving her Kix.
Reply:i never tried KIX, but we did do other cereals. KIX scared me because they were like a ball and i was afraid of choking.

have you tried those gerber puffs, or the freeze dried fruits? MY daughter LOVED those. she still loves the dried fruits. they are in the baby food aisle. also cheeses they are easy to gum and swallow. pastas. bread.
Reply:That is great!!! better off eating real food anyway... I'd just keep experimenting w/ steamed veggies.... I'm babysitting a 9 month old boy who love beans!! his mom brings him tiny ones like navy beans, blackeyes peas, black beans... I'm not sure about the kix - try some for yourself, if they dissolve as fast as cheerios, then they should be ok!

Make sure she's not actually living off these solids though, her breastmilk/formula should be her main diet, and solids should be some snacks for fun and to entertain herself while the rest of the family eats dinner!!!
Reply:There are gerber graduate grain puffs that are like little cereal peices that provide more nutrition than cereals. Kix wouldnt dissolve before a baby could choke on it, they dont know how to properly chew. A babies pimary nutrition before 1 year is formula anyhow, but chocking is a big hazard as is sugars a bad thing for them.
Reply:I think it's fine, but I wouldn't give her too many at once. Even though they turn to mush, if there are too many in her mouth at one time, they could get stuck. My niece used to choke on Goldfish, just because she would take huge handfuls and they would get into this big glob of mush and she would choke...I mean really choke and turn blue. So, just make sure she's not doing the chipmunk thing and storing the kix in her mouth! : )

    Moms! baby food question?

is it safe to feed my baby home made baby food? like sweet peas or carrotts, cooked and puread?

Absolutely, and better for them too. Just make sure you wash the food really well before cooking/puree-ing.

Reply:yes, just make sure you get them fresh or frozen and not in the can. This is really the better way to go the baby will enjoy it more is what some say. My sis in law puriees her babies food. Baby is fine.
Reply:when my kids where baby's i did not buy baby food at the store ever

i bought a food chopper and made my own when i cooked i left alil off to the side and chopped it up for the baby that way i knew what my child was eating
Reply:Yep, it absolutely is. (as long as your baby is 6 months and older) It can actually be better, because you aren't putting any preservatives or additves into your baby's food like baby food companies do.

Here is a great website that can help you with your homemade baby food.

I love this website. It is very informative.

    Good luck!
Reply:I agree with the Mom's above (and likely below), just one cautionary note: be sure that when your baby gets a little older and moves onto meats and such that you don't put things like pepper/spices on it like you normally would for yourself! The spices will make it too strong for your little one, and may cause some uncomfortable digestion, similar to how breastfeeding mom's typically cut down on spicy foods. Otherwise, go ahead! Mothers for thousands of years had to feed their babies without Gerber to help them along.

It's just my theory, but giving them baby food the way you prepare it versus Gerber may make them more likely to eat the veggies and such that you prepare when they are older kids because it is what they are used to (even if it is no longer smooshed up).
Reply:Of course! Why wouldn't it be?
Reply:yes. Just make sure you feed them the same food for a few days to see if they have a reaction to it. You shouldnt have to add anything to it.

am buying a previous daycare. my name is jennifer. i live in a very small town.

    choices are:

    jumpin' jennibeans preschool

    sweet peas preschool

lullabies %26amp; mud pies preschool or lullaby%26amp;mudpie preschool

doodlebugs preschool (it is right now called jitterbugs which i have to change)

maybe you can help me narrow this down......i like them all so i just really need a tiebreaker!!!!!!:)))))
I am in DESPERATE need of my daycare name.need by 5:00!maybe u can help.i have been working on this all week!?
Congrats. on your new venture. Remember you are dealing with Mums and Dads before you get the kids in. So I think the name should appeal to Mums etc before the kids and reflect not only fun but early learning. 'A-Z Cottage', 'J's Early Learning Centre', choose a name that parents will like first.
Reply:I like Jumping Jennibeans Preschool. It is very fun and cute
Reply:i think sweet peas is nice.

Reply:WELL WHAT ABOUT PEAS AND CUES PRESCHOOL!!!

    THAT'S KINDA CUTIE AND FUN!!!
Reply:Lullabies %26amp; Mud Pies is really cute. :D
Reply:When choosing a name for your business, think about how you will answer the phone. Most parents now want their children to be above average in academics, give your center a name that will attract the parents. Something that lets parents know that the child will not only be playing, but also learning. I suggest using your last name, instead of your first name, and adding academy instead of preschool, like "Smith Academy" But if you really want to use one of your choices, I think that Sweet Peas Academy would sound like a nice place to put my child.
Reply:Does the name really have to be so cutesy? Have you considered a straightforward name like

    Preschool by Jennifer or

Town Name Preschool, Jennifer, proprietor or just

    Town Name Preschool.
Reply:I like lullabies and mud pies too but I would probably look into a place called Doodlebugs first.
Reply:i like lullabies and mud pies. it gives me a feel that they will be cared for and the mud pies makes me think that they will also have lots of play time, so they will go to sleep at night.

i have on, wee ones to grow. just another thought. i do like yours though.

    good luck.
Reply:What about something less precious, like Main Street Preschool. It is a business, first and foremost, and if it has a cutesy name, I think people treat you less seriously. You can pick a pretty street name, hopefully you have a few choices.

Street name, famous person from your town - George Washington Preschool, tree or plant name - something that shows you trained for this profession and you're not a babysitter.
Reply:I LOVE Lullibies and Mud Pies. That's so cute! After that, I like Doodlebugs.
Reply:doodlebugs and sweet peas are cute to me and lullabies %26amp; mud pies too
Reply:lullabies %26amp; mud pies preschool is very cute in my opinion.
Reply:I like sweet peas...don't like anything that has to do with mudpies (all I can think of is my kid getting filthy). Good luck!
Reply:Sweet Peas Preschool. I like that name because it reminds me of the Bath and Body Works Scent, Sweet Pea, which smells great, and the name itself is very cute.
Reply:You might want to stay away from anything to do with mud peis, some parents may not put their child in a daycare with the word mud in it. What about Sweet lullabies Day care and Preschool? Or something like that.

Out of your list I like Jumpin' jennibeans preschool the best, 2nd would be doodlebugs preschool.

You can also just do something simple with your name and your town.
Reply:I like lullabies %26amp; mud pies preschool! Good Luck!

My african gray is poop.. parrot breeders answer only?

my african gray has been poopin red... before it was brown but the wet part tht comes out is like a bright red... and the poop is red.. i am feeding her carrots and sweet peas, is the coloring normal or can i tell a differnce between food die or real blood? is there such that as internal bleeding over food or anything? she acts nice though she climbs around and talk... she has fell a time or two but on her feet? what should i do? could it be the food im feeding her? or could something be wrong?
My african gray is poop.. parrot breeders answer only?
The color of a bird's droppings do become very reddish with some fruit and vegetable consumption, however, you can take a couple of steps to test whether your concern is warranted. Take away the fresh foods and spend the rest of the evening offering your bird nothing but his normal food.

Watch him for signs of weakness and fever, like fluffed feathers, or sitting too low on his perch. Watch him also for signs of pain, like unprovoked nipping, unusual mood or strange activities. If he appears otherwise fine and the color of his droppings isn't darker or more blood-like, you can head to bed instead of rushing to an animal ER. Check him again in the morning. If they haven't returned to their normal color, take him immediately to the vet.

Get a little memo pad and make notes of things like this for future reference. It will help you tell in the future whether your bird needs care.
Reply:The keratine (sp) in the carrots could discolor feces, but I can't imagine it causing bright red feces. I would suggest you take your bird to a vet. Asking for advice in that regard from so called "parrot breeders" on here could prove to be deadly to your bird. Take her/him to the vet and follow a trained veterinarian's advise.

What is your favorite smell? Why?
I think this question has been asked before, but it never gets old so it's OK. I like cinnamon, freshly-mown grass, the air just before a thunderstorm, gasoline, coffee. When I was a kid, I loved the smell of second-hand cigarette smoke. Frying bacon.

Gasoline reminds me of a job I used to have. I liked the job.

Reply:The person who said "baby powder." Yeah, me too. When I was 19, a dad for the first time, I looked after my son, which meant using a lot of baby powder...which, in turn, meant the deed was almost over. Now, at 71, I still remember the aroma of baby powder, and my boy is now older than I am in many ways.

    Thanks everyone!
Which prom dress do you like best?
    Ratings:

1] too wide - will make you appear shorter. That yellow is not your best color.

2] most sophisticated - the V neck and the ruffles will give you curves; and the color should look great!

3] very cute - wear if you have great legs,or most friends wearing a short dress. NOT in pea green - you will look jaundiced! In order - try the purplish, the blue, or the fuschia

4] too young - will make you look 14. Again, not yellow.

    Suggestions:

    a] best colors -

White, pinks, cherry, burgundy, lemon, mint, jade, pine or forest green; sky, royal, smoke, or navy blue; lavender to plum, gray, black, silver

b] wear hair up - will also make you look taller

c] add some drop or chandelier [ not giant, long ] earrings

d] strappy sandals in a low heel in silver, gold, or nude [ skin tone ] to continue nice long line. Bag to match.

    Have a great time!

PS: for future reference, strapless is ok if you are not flat chested, or have bony clavicles. They work with small to medium busts very nicely.

Pearl in Oyster its purplish grey???

I found a pearl in an fried oyster last night they were fresh shucked by me and my friend. Well I bit down in the first one and crunch well I pulled it out and it isnt very big but about the size of a small english pea, or sweet pea. It is purplish black in color with a little iridecent color too. I was wondering how I could find out if its worth anything, also do you need to polish these to make jewelry out of them? Who would I show it to to find out if it would in fact be worth something. I appreciate any help and thank you in advance.

  • Your favroite season 4 Project Runway designer?

I just love Christian so much!

He's so FEROSH. And he's such a great designer for someone so young. I was surprised when I saw he was only 21 years old. And hes so hilarious and adorable and totally just makes the show worth watching.

i really am his #1 fan :] haha

i dont care what any haters say about him, he's amazing.

I really hope he wins! And if he gets sent home, I'm totally boycotting the show.

I also like Chris and Sweet Pea and Kit. Too bad Kit was sent home :[

Who's your favorite designer? Who did you vote for for Fan Favorite (if you did)?
Your favroite season 4 Project Runway designer?
    Christian, of course!

And I'm his biggest fan. :]

He's pretty much the best designer left. All the others are soo boring (Rami) or bad designers (Ricky). Christian always has funny things to say and his designs are always very cute and innovative. And his hair is FABULOUS, isn't it?

I've already voted tons for Christian. I hope he wins fan favorite. I'm pretty sure he will. Most people love him. I know I do. xoxoxo

Can you BELIEVE it's a rerun tonight though? That's soo annoying! And I really wanted to see what they would do after seeing the preview last week. :[
Reply:My favorites are Christian and Sweet Pea. But I LOVE Christian =]

I reallllyyy don't like Ricky. He's such a cryer. He doesn't have one scene where he's talking without tears! Jeesh!
    Reply:I like Chris,Christian and jillian..
Reply:Christians' clothing looks like something you can get off the racks at Rave or Forever 21.

Maybe his designs are for the 25 and under crowd, but I'm sure his prices won't be.

Rami and Chris' designs are too costum-ish.

Like something you'd wear to a masquerade ball.

Sweet P has clothing that is suitable for any female between 25-45. So I'm hoping she'll be one of the final 3.

Ricky, I hope, will utilize more of his lingerer background for more form fitting clothing. He's another I'd like to see in the final 3.

But my favorite is the curly haired gal. Her clothing is more sophisticated and manicured. It's clothing more along the lines of Ann Taylor. So I hope she's in the final 3 as well.
Reply:Christian!!! he's such a cutie! haha. he's basically the only reason i decided to continue watching the show this season...hes very talented; ive liked all of his outfits so far. i also liked jack...too bad he was eliminated :/ my favorites as of now are:

    1. CHRISTIAN!!

    2. sweet pea...i dont always like her clothing, but shes cute also...lol. and shes very hard-working.

    3. ricky xD not entirely for his clothing, but i love those little hats he wears. and he makes them himself :D hes cute too!! ahh i love this season. i think that christian and romi (romney?) will be in the finals; maybe jillian. cant wait for next weeks episode!
    Reply:Christian. He cracks me up.
Reply:same here...christian is crazy...i was also hoping kevin would make it farther...love rachael ray and he is one of her stylists on the show...
Reply:christian is very talented, but i like the chick with the curly hair. and romi is very good too. i'd like to see those three in the finals.
Reply:I like Jillian and Rami, but I also really like Ricky.

    Haa...I can't decide.

Kit used to be my favorite.
Reply:Nuh-uh, I'm Christian's number one fan! He's da bomb.I liked Kit as well. I like Jillian's clothing, but she's a little too boring for me.

    FIERCE! Lol.
Reply:I like Rami best (I think he is a serisouly beautiful man, too!), but Christian is setting himself apart as the most innovative of the designers. I liked Kit and Kevin, too. I was surprised the two of them left as soon as they did. And aren't you shocked that Ricky is still on the show?! His Levis' look was okay, but Christian definitely showed us something new in those pants he made and Rami showed he can do more than make drapey-goddess dresses. I'm hoping Rami, Christian and either Sweet P or Jillian make it to Fashion Week.
Reply:I like Christian as well. My favorites are Rami, Jillian and Christian. I think those 3 should make it to finals. Christian is quite funny sometimes. He really makes me laugh! Although, I do understand the other contestants when they say that he could be a little annoying. But from a viewers standpoint, he is hillarious! He cracked me up the episode where he was showing the models how to walk the runway! LOL!

what flowers are feb flowers? What flowers would fit my feathery look? What flowers should I do for the moms and flowergirls? Should I switch the callas to something else? If so, what?

    PLEASE HELP!
Feb flowers for valentines day wedding?
Valentine's Day is the busiest day of the year for florists. Also many flowers are tripled in price for the occasion, regardless of whether they are in season or not.

Your florist will have ideas on what works best with your budget and the look you're going for.

If you're still looking for someone, check out the local chat boards at theknot.com since they are very helpful and they have more info than the magazines and ads do.
Reply:I am getting married february 14, 2009 and I am having Fire and Ice roses as my flowers. They are absolutely gorgeous! I booked my venue November 2007!! So yes or wedding day is going to be very popular! Report It
Reply:I personally LOVE calla lilies and think they will be a wonderful choice. As for the the groomsmen, I would avoid the black ribbon. Their tuxes will most likely be black, so the ribbon will just blend in. The rest of the ideas you have are great. A new trend for the moms is that they're carrying their own mini-bouquet in lieu of a corsage. And the flowergirl doesn't necessarily need flowers. You could put flowers in her hair.

As for your bouquet, I really like the calla lilies or ranunuclus. I would avoid carnations.

Just a reminder--your wedding is a year and three months away. No reason to be panicking! :o)
Reply:Girl, you have over a year. Calm down!

In mid Feb. of this year, go check out florists. Just window shopping, mind you. See what blooms are in season and what looks good together. Look at the Jan-Feb issues of the bridal mags for ideas.

    Don't forget to breathe!

    Edit -

They are booked one year and three months in advance?!? WTF? That's the stupidest thing I've heard. Any place like that is going to be way too expensive, but if you want to spend thousands of dollars on flowers that are just going to die, that's your choice.

Do I need the whole root of my foxglove seedlings when I thin them out? They are way too thick!?

They are very spindly like a vine, when I pulled a section up there was not much root. They are about 2 inches high, and I am a first year gardener, so any tips on this or anything else about thinning would be great. I also planted cosmos, delphinium, larkspur, sweet pea(mammoth), snapdragons, canterbury bells....and four o'clocks as a border around the south side of my garden and caladium borders my other sides......When should i stake my tall flowers? Have a Q about my climbing roses but I'll save that for another time. Thanx in advance.
Do I need the whole root of my foxglove seedlings when I thin them out? They are way too thick!?
when you thin, are you trying to replant the one you plucked out? if you are then yes you need to get all the root.. soak the area and gently pull out of soil, replant immediately...

    Does he love me?

to cut things short.. i'm in highschool and i like my friend's older brother. He's only older than me by several months but i like him so much. Recently, i just celebrated my birthday and he gave me a bag of italian candy and jolly ranchers that he brought with him to italy when they went on a trip. For my past birthdays, he's also given me presents. This one time he folded 5 paper airplanes and burned a piece of paper with his lighter on the edges and wrote "have a 'BURNT' birthday!" and then he put down a nickname that he used for me. well that year as a return present i folded a paper origami flower and sprayed the inside of the flower with sweet pea body splash. i also gave him three coffee beans because of an inside joke. That was two years ago. and guess what? recently, i went to his house for a sleepover at his house.. and i snuck into his room. His sister told me that he still keeps the flower in his drawer next to his bed. he still keeps the flower and coffee beans with him%26lt;3

Weaning a 8 month old, please help!?

My little sweet pea screamed like a crazy woman when offered a bottle when she was a wee thing whether it was breast milk or formula. Then my breastpump broke, and I gave up (regret that now). I'd prefer to keep soley breast feeding her till she is a year and can take milk in a cup, but my circumstances have changed, and I need to make money. I need to be able to leave her for longer stretches so that I can work. How can I wean her when she never learned how to suck from a bottle? Can I wean her to formula in a sippy cup? Or if I can find a pump, breastmilk in a sippy? She is very attached to me and will protest violently any change, any ideas on how I can do this?
Weaning a 8 month old, please help!?
sucking is natural for babies and if she can suck on your breast she will manage with a bottle trust me if shes thirsty she will drink some ppl say a sippy cup but i dont think shes old enough nor will she get enough that way maybe start that in a few months when shes older just get her a cutie bottle with cartoons or something pretty and she will go right to it good luck its gonna take a few weeks maybe sooner but she will get the hang of it and shes gonna be alright i hope the same for you......lol kids adjust well just stay strong and dont back out of this just do it and keep doing it she will catch on
Reply:Your daughter can probably drink breastmilk from a sippy cup (or through a srtaw, like mine does). If she can't tackle these things yet, there is nothing wrong with giving the bottle another shot. Have someone (other than you, like daddy or grandma) give her the bottle. Sometimes babies refuse to take a bottle when they know that the feeder of that bottle is hiding the good stuff! :)

Your daughter may now be opposed to the taste of formula. if this is the case, you don't need a pump to express breastmilk. It is quite easy to manually express your milk, I have been doing so successfully for two months now (ever since my pump was accedentally packed up when we moved) and I prefer it to the breastpump, actually. Do a web search on how to manually express breastmilk or go to http://www.breastfeeding.com/helpme/help... to see how it can be done. It takes a little practice, but after a few times, you will be a pro!

As far as the change in your daughter's schedule is concerned, there are ways to help her through. Try making the experience of drinking out of a "big girl" cup fun. If she is developmentally unready, don't push it. None of us like things we can't do well (this is when the bottle is a good bet). If she seems eager to try the sippy cup/straw method, put a little water in the cup. She won't get a lot at first and you don't want to waste your milk! Once she gets the hang of it, switch to your milk in the cup.

    Good Luck!
Reply:It sounds like you've already had trouble getting her to take a bottle, so I think the best thing to do would be to express milk, and leave it for her in the fridge in a sippy cup, with her caregiver. At 8 months, there is really no sense in introducing a bottle, especially if she protests and you need to force it one her....it is just one more thing to wean her from.

Does she drink water out of a sippy cup now?

You may also find, that while you are at work, she will not drink anything, she will just refuse until you are home. Depending on how many hours you are at work, this is just fine. Many breastfed babies will not eat while in daycare, and wait patiently for mom. Then, your breastfeeding sessions upon reunion at the end of the day will be extra special.

You may also find that when you first return to work, she may want to nurse ALOT at night and on the weekends. If she is sleeping through the night, she may start to wake up again to nurse...this is all normal.

You can do it, mom, and congratulations on continuing to breastfeed upon returning to work. I had to go back to work full-time many years ago when my first son was 7 months. He was ok with breastmilk in a bottle, though, and my mom would drive him to me on my lunch break....is that an option for you?

I also suggest you borrow/buy/read the book "Nursing Mother, Working Mother" by Gale Pryor. It should be very useful for you.
Reply:"Myth: Babies must learn to take a bottle so that they can be fed when the mother is not there.

Not true . Some exclusively breastfed babies will not take a bottle by 2 or 3 months of age. Most, who have not taken a bottle, and even some who did accept a bottle in the first weeks of life will not take one by the time they are 4 or 5 months of age. This is no tragedy, and there is no reason to give a bottle early so that the baby knows how. If your baby is refusing to take a bottle, do not try to force him; you and he may become very frustrated and there is just no need to go through all this. If the baby is at least 6 months of age when you start back at outside work, the baby quite simply does not need to take a bottle. If he is even 4 months, he does not need to take a bottle. He can be fed liquids or solids off a spoon just as any other 6 month old and by 6 months of age he can be taking enough so that he will not be hungry during the day. Furthermore, he can start learning to drink from a cup even by 5 or 6 months of age. The cup can be an open cup and does not need to have a spout. Start with water as your baby may spill a fair amount at first. If, however, he has not got the hang of the cup by the time you must leave him, do not worry, he can take fluids off a spoon, or the solid foods can be mixed with more liquid (expressed milk, juice, water). Obviously, if the baby is to be taking a fair amount of a variety of foods by 6 months of age, he may need to be started on solids by 5 months of age. However, some babies prefer to wait for the mother in order to drink something. This is fine; many babies sleep 12 hours at night without drinking or eating at all.

Myth: Babies need to drink milk when the mother is not at home.

Not true . Three or four good nursings during a 24 hour period plus a variety of solid foods gives the baby all he needs nutritionally, and thus he does not need any other type of milk when you are at your outside job. Of course, solid foods can be mixed with expressed milk or other milk, but this is not necessary..."

    http://www.bflrc.com/newman/breastfeedin...
Reply:she is plenty old enough to be weaned to a sippy cup, probably best to try with breast milk, she probably wont take formula. You may find it easier if you get someone else to offer it to her when you are not in the room. If she can see you she will just want the breast. It is really just a matter of trying regularly. All of my babies started on sippy cups at 7 months and did very well with them, My two sons never had a bottle at all.

  • How do the various "cartoon" characters interfere with a child's understanding moral values and Truth?

Specifically recognizing so much sexual ambiguity in characters like "Sweet Pea", the abandoned urchin-like child who lives with Popeye (single father), and Peanuts' Lucy's apparant misandry?

I just have a reel fear with things like this and I want to keep my child from being confused.

What have you seen on things like that that could damage a child and how to keep children from it is also.

(the wording is very important here.)

    Ty all.
How do the various "cartoon" characters interfere with a child's understanding moral values and Truth?
Sweet Pea is definately not to live without two parents to turn out straight.

Lucy, is not desireable as a wife who is meant to be barefoot in the kitchen and only surving her authority... Man.

So, I think the younger you can expose your child to Charlton Heston's Moses or images of the walking dead during judgement day, and have simple Christian coloring books as an alternative to cartoons, that should help.

Because, just as we have to spank the child for running out in the street... We must mentally instill fear of hell to keep them safe in eternal light of Jesus' promise.

Also, rent Christian cartoons and limit her TV time to those cartoons.

Your a good mother, so I doubt you would let anything happen to her that would harm her young developing mind.

I forgot to mention Barney. He is much safer than Sesame Street or Mr. Rogers. They have homosexual undertones and Barney is very safe.

Shield them from the obvious, answer their questions about the rest. If you've raised them well, they'll consider the morals you've taught them when evaluating such things.

Cartoon characters are good as long as they are constructive and convey positive values to child.
Reply:Oh, it goes farther back than that. Consider the institutional cruelty in Tom %26amp; Jerry cartoons. And Heckle, Jeckle and Felix the Cat were as amoral as they come. But I'd have to say the most egregious example of exercising brute power for its own sake was Walter Lanz's sociopathic little penguin, Chilly Willy. To this day, I don't understand why Harvey Birdman, Attourney at Law, has not leapt to file suit on behalf of the hapless Wally Walrus.

I'm looking for some smooth, sunshiny, light-hearted songs. Songs that sound like Sweet Pea, by Amos Lee with the husky undertones and smooth voice, and light ukelele, with a bounce. Or like Banana Pancakes by Jack Johnson, with rhythms that you just want to bounce with, and songs like Put your Records on, by Corinne Bailey Rae that just make you happy with her smooth voice, unique sound, and sunshiny tone. • Let's talk about the latest season of Project Runway. [favorite designers, least favorite, winner hopefuls]

Personally, I absolutely LOVE Christian. I love cocky guys, and his voice... I think Jillian's got great style, too, but I've predicted from the beginning Christian would win.

I loved Sweet Pea, though...I wish she was still on, instead of Rammi. I enjoy seeing and listening to Chris too, though. He is such a character, and I love the pictures of him in drag. :]

Who is/was your least favorite person on the show? I really, really disliked Ricky. Ugh. %26gt;___%26gt;;; Rammi also bothers me -- all of his stuff looks the same to me! He's got talent and all his stuff looks good...But I don't think it's for the runway. And his obsession with draping...Get a room. Am I right?

Anyways, I'd love to hear your opinions, unless you are just going to tell me that the show sucks, or whatever. If that's all you want to say, kindly keep your nose out of here. Also, don't BASH people.

For example; "EWW KRISCHEN HE IS SCH A F****T HE SHUD JST G0 DY!1!ONE" or "RICKY IS RETARD" is a no-no.

    Thank-you kindly.

Uhm, hi. That was LAST SEASON!

They announced the winner a while back. It was Christian.

And I agree, he had great style. And deserved to win. His designs were unique and had a style. I liked Rami, too.

We need to purchase a food processor but we can not afford an expensive high quality item at this time.

Specifically I want to make Humus. The beans seem to be quite hard. The last time I made it, it burnt up my blender. I dumped them straight from the can (rinsed) and it took quite a bit for the initial puree and I had difficulty mantaining cavitation until the puree was very smooth.

Will an inexpensive hand held blender/mixer do the job? Will I get more than three uses out of it? How much should I plan to spend for a cheapy that I can use more than once? $10.00? $20.00? Will boiling the beans to a sweet pea consistency help?

I liked What we made with light garlic and heavy roasted red peppers. Any other single ingredients that taste good?

What is a good food grinder?
If you really want the 'BEST' - go to your local Goodwill and see if you can find one of those old hand crank steel grinders. You know the ones that they clamped onto the side of the table with a c-clamp??

They don't make them any more - why I don't know. Sadly, I didn't get my grandmother's grinder - my aunt did. But those things could literally grind up NAILS if it had to I bet.

As to the electric ones - they all seemed the same to me (I am not a fan as you can tell - but have bought a cheap processor for the times I might need one). But I wouldn't suggest a hand held model for what you are thinking of doing.
Reply:You do need a food processor, not a blender. A blender needs more liquid than a food processor, which can do solid foods.

I don't think a mixer will suffice. Food processors aren't that expensive. I think mine was $40.

Victoria's Secret...do You buy the Perfume OR Body spray???

I was wondering if the Perfume in like Love Spell smelled the same as their Body Spray....I hear the perfume lasts longer but I want it to smell just as good as the body spray.

(When I went to Bath %26amp; Body Works, I noticed the Sweet Pea perfume smelled WORSE than the body spray....it's so disappointing because I want the scent to last longer!!!)

So what about Victoria's Secret collection?? (and I'm talking about the line where they have Love Spell, Pure Seduction, Sweet Temptations...etc!) :) Which do you buy and like the best??? PERFUME OR BODY SPRAY?

    Thanks girls ;)

    Ear Piercing Question....?!?

I got my ears pierced when I was a kid. My left ear got infected and I had to let them grow up. Now, I have a small cyst in the left lobe. It is about the size of a small sweet pea. It has been in there for about 10 yrs, and sometimes hurts to squeeze it.

My question is this: Can I get my ears pierced again with that knot in there? Will it cause more problems if I DO get my ear re-pierced? Will it hurt to have that cyst re-pierced since it is sore sometimes when I squeeze it? Has anyone else had this problem....did you have it re-pierced?

TY Everyone, Ahead of time, for your help!!
    Ear Piercing Question....?!?
it probably would hurt since its sore sumtimes... but i would go to the doctor 4 that
Reply:If it is truly a cyst, repiercing it could make it grow. I would check with a dermatologist to see exactly what it is and if it is ok to repierce it.
Reply:my husband had the SAME thing happen!!!! he had to take his out when he went into the airforce! he had to go to the doctor and get it removed so he could get it repierced.....something about the risk of any further infection.....especially since it hurts sometimes....you definately need to get it looked at

I changed my 8th grade graduation outfit (would these match?)?
The second outfit doesn't match. If you are going to wear a gold dress I wouldn't wear a metallic shoe. That may dull the color of the dress. The jewelry is okay.
Reply:i think the first one is better, the second one youll be all gold, with no other colors, at least in the first one you can wear colors. silver shoes would look really nice with the first one, go with it.
Reply:Either.. the first is cute, nice dress, nice colour

    maybe not gold?
Reply:Second one would be REALY pretty:]
Reply:that matches really welland its really cute , but if your wearing that thing over it, it doesnt matter jk(just joking) it does matter!
Reply:I like the second one more...

The sweat pea color would make this gorgeous dress look tacky, so definitely try it in gold.
    Reply:i love the first outfit
Reply:i think the first one is better, the second one did not match.

and the second one you could have more colors.

    your choice.

    good luck =]]]
    Reply:luv the 2nd one better!
Reply:the second one doesn't really match.

I mean the shoes don't go.

but I like the dress better in the sweet pea anyway.

good luck trying to find shoes.
Reply:arggg the thing owuldnt let me change the color of the dress... but i think the first one would be better if its more causal in a pea greea, but gold would be more royal and formal.. .so do u want casual or formal???? (both cute)
Reply:i definetly like the second one :)

Best way to start a vine for fence?

I live in Zone 5, and have a east wooden fence and a south chain link fence surrounding my property, they are the neighbor's fences so I can't remove them. I would like to hide them though. However, last spring I planted honeysuckle and sweet pea from seeds and never got any to sprout. The area is very sunny and bugs tend to gather, so should I start the vines indoors then transplant? Please help, these fences are driving me crazy!!! Also, the neighbors have given me permission to plant flowering vines along both fences, thay seem to like the idea as well.
Best way to start a vine for fence?
Rose of Sharon is a nice hedge plant and has flowers, you can buy bare root now which is much cheaper. this will give you an idea of what to expect.

    http://www.directgardening.com/detail.as...

You don't need permission from your neighbor to plant on your side of the fence
Reply:Either buy plants of honeysuckle or get fresh green stems and start them. Seeds of the honeysuckle do best started from birds--( apparently going thru their body helps the seed. One start of honeysuckle will give you good growth this year and plenty of supplies to start more next year-- I know of a yellow honeysuckle and a red variety.

The easiest flowering vine is morning glories-- soak the seeds over night before planting-- they start slowly so mark the spot. Once started, they will reseed themselves every year.

The next easiest flowering vine is the original clematis-- It's called Autumn flowering or something like that-- can't remember right now. It grows well, is strong and the blooms are small but SO fragrant. You may be able to get "starts" from friends. Once it's established, like the honey suckle, you'll love it-- so will the birds.

Both Honeysuckle and the clematis can be very heavy-- you'll either shear the old growth in the spring or something else-- all the shearing does is "prune" and you get new growth.

    good luck
Reply:It is best not to have climbing vines if the fences do not belong to you. Instead plant evergreen shrubs or a nice hedge. Be sure to plant them about four or five feet away from the fences as the shrubs/hedge will bush out and fill in that space.

Go to your local nursery or garden center and ask them to suggest an evergreen for you.

OR make it easy on yourself and have a landscaper company plant these for you. They have all the equipment, fertilizer and etc. to do the planting correctly. Make sure the contract says they will replace any thing that dies. Also ask them how to take care of them. Watering is VERY important.
