Hector Camacho vs. Pernell Whitaker?

Prime Whitaker vs prime Camacho. As good as Sweet Pea was, he was a hard fighter to fight but I give Camacho the edge. I watched both of these guys in their primes and Camacho was faster and had a very good defense as well. I see his combinations beating Whitaker by close decision.
Hector Camacho vs. Pernell Whitaker?
Hector was a character, still is, and Camacho never got the recognition he felt he deserved. He always was overshadowed by Ray Leonard, Marvin Hagler, Thomas Hearns and Roberto Duran. To Hector's credit he eventually got two of the four who plagued his career. Camacho's record reads like a who's who of hall of fame boxers, the little $hit fought everybody who was anybody. Hector's career demands respect.



That said, Pea was an all time great in his own right, and a lot slicker than Hector. I don't think Camacho would have matched up well with Whitaker, Pernell would have taken Hector apart, the talent level Whitaker brought was enough to eclipse Hector's toughness and work ethic.



Whitaker takes this one, easily.
Reply:it is shame this fight did not happen. when camacho was on top he thought pea was beneath him. when whitaker was on top of the game he repaid him back for the snub, and he said so in interviews. pea did not have the power to stop camacho and he was very vanilla. if camacho was motivated like he was against leonard,pazienza he would outwork pea and win decision.
Reply:after the edwin rosario fight, when hector got hit harder than he ever thought possible, he only shined on brief occasions after that, vinny paz is one exception that immediately springs to mind.



pernell outpoints hector here in a clear cut decision
Reply:This is an easy pick. Just look back at the fights both had against JC Chavez. Sweet Pea was a far superior boxer over Camacho. Even though neither had any real KO power. I see Whitaker winning about 9 out of 12 rounds.
Reply:i have to agree with you whitaker lacked quality opponents to fight cause you are only as good as the opponents you beat.
